The international bridge that will connect Alcoutim and Sanlúcar de Guadiana already has a completed and revised execution project, as well as an Environmental Impact Study ready, and is just waiting for the green light from environmental authorities on both sides of the border to be able to launch a public tender to carry out the project, something that Osvaldo Gonçalves, mayor of Alcoutim, says he can do «by the end of the year».
The municipality, owner of the work, and the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, which is providing technical support to the Alcoutenejo municipality in this project, held an online meeting with the Junta de Andalucía, the municipality of Sanlúcar de Guadiana, the Consul of Portugal in Seville, «with the aim of coordinating the next steps to obtain a favorable environmental declaration from the authorities of the Kingdom of Spain and the Junta de Andalucía».
In statements to the Sul Informação, Osvaldo Gonçalves explained that, as this is a work on both banks, the study carried out by the promoting entity, in this case, the Alcoutim Chamber, «does not require a study to be carried out on the other side».
This does not prevent the Spanish authorities from having to comment on the environmental assessment that was carried out.
«In our tight schedule, it was planned that the delivery of the revised implementation project and EIA to the Spanish authorities it would happen in October 2023, which was fulfilled».
In this way, the project, which will be fully financed by funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) – and, as such, will have to be completed by 2026 -, is “on schedule”.
«I plan to launch the public tender for the project this year, as the work will have to start in 2024», said Osvaldo Gonçalves.
To build this bridge, the Municipality of Alcoutim has a budget of 14,6 million euros, a revised value in relation to the initial allocation, which was 9 million euros.
This public investment will be implemented by the Municipality of Alcoutim, with the intermediation and technical collaboration of CCDR Algarve, in connection with the Recover Portugal Mission Structure and with the various Spanish and Andalusian authorities.
