The Zer0 Museum will receive support of 900 thousand euros from ANACOM (National Communications Authority) to finance works at the Agricultural Cooperative of Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo (Tavira), but also future activities. The protocol was signed this Monday, October 23rd.
The moment was attended by João Galamba, Minister of Infrastructure, who also oversees ANACOM.
The protocol was also signed with the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as it is the entity that makes the «interministerial connection» and the Zer0 Museum is a project that encompasses several ministries, explained João Correia Vargues, to Sul Informação.
According to the president of the Museum's Executive Committee, ANACOM's support will be “for three years”.
«It will be useful for the work, which is taking place at the Agricultural Cooperative, how to finance the activities related to digital art that we will carry out, in schools and beyond».
For João Galamba, Minister of Infrastructure, this is a «museum that transcends the regional and national scope».
«It is truly transformative. This is an avant-garde project that involves the recovery of heritage», stated the official.
Furthermore, this museum will be created in the old cereal silos and attached warehouses of the Agricultural Cooperative of Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, spaces that have been deactivated for years.
Interestingly, the buildings of the old cooperative are themselves a kind of museum, as they were designed in the 50s by Manuel Gomes da Costa, a modernist architect.
This will be the first space in Portugal focused on digital art.
The idea of building this museum came from Paulo Teixeira Pinto, former president of Banco Comercial Português (BCP), artist, art collector and currently residing in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo.
