Crimes against GNR increased by 38% in the first eight months of the year

General crime recorded an 8% increase in the first eight months of the year

Crimes against the National Republican Guard (GNR) registered until August increased by 38% compared to the same period in 2022, accounting for three daily incidents and a total of 168 injured soldiers, it was revealed today.

The GNR and Public Security Police (PSP) presented yesterday, in Porto, the operational results between January 01st and August 31st of this year, a period in which there was a general increase in crime, also the result, they say, of greater proactivity of the two police forces.

According to data released by the GNR Director of Operations, Mário Guedelha, crimes against the guard increased by 38%, “which results in three crimes per day and 168 injured soldiers”.

Until August 31, 838 crimes were recorded, 234 more than in the same period last year.

General crime registered an increase of 8% in the first eight months of the year, accounting for a total of 31 crimes by August 111.050st.

Group crime (+35%) and juvenile delinquency (+0,3%) recorded by the GNR also increased between January and August this year compared to the same period in 2022, as well as drug-related crimes (+36%) and domestic violence crimes (+4%).

Conversely, forest fire crimes fell by 26%.

During that period, the police force also saw road accidents increase by 10%, recording 31 deaths (+278%) and 2 serious injuries (+1.281%) by August 4st.

Administrative offenses due to the influence of alcohol also increased by 15%, while speeding violations decreased by 10%.

In the PSP's area of ​​activity, general crime increased by 9,5% compared to the same period in 2022, registering an additional 10 crimes.

According to the PSP, violent and serious crime also increased by 4,8% (286 more crimes) compared to the same period in 2022 and an increase of 1,8% (44 more) in group delinquency crimes and 15,7, 57% (plus XNUMX) of crimes related to juvenile delinquency.

According to Pedro Moura, from the national directorate of the PSP, until August, the crimes that rose the most were drug trafficking (646 more) and others related to this activity (324 more), with 6.366 seizures being carried out in this context (more 26%) and 3.715 arrests (37% more).

The PSP also increased the number of arrests by 7,5% (+1.321) and by 3,2% the number of crimes detected as part of police proactivity.

With regard to domestic violence, there were 18 fatal cases, 10.567 reports (0,2% less) and 639 detainees.
