Olhão sees approved application of 1 million euros for Digital Commercial Neighborhoods

The “Bairro.com Alma” project will cover the area between the neighborhoods of Barreta and Levante and Avenidas da República and 5 de Outubro

The Municipality of Olhão saw the approval of an application worth around 1 million euros to the Digital Commercial Neighborhoods program, financed by funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The objective of this initiative is to boost local commerce, by investing in the digitization and modernization of economic operators and their business models, in promoting trade and in the digital integration of supply and outlet chains.

In Olhão, the “Bairro.com Alma” project will cover the area between the neighborhoods of Barreta and Levante and Avenidas da República and 5 de Outubro.

According to the Olhão City Council, the application will make it possible, among other aspects, to «guarantee free Wi-Fi access in public spaces, which will allow customers to access services and information about parking for free; increase accessibility to digital commerce through access to shopping platforms, allowing anyone and anywhere to access local commerce in Olhão; promote urban rehabilitation and the installation of urban furniture; and reinforce mobility and access to local commerce».

The presentation ceremony of the winning projects at national level took place on Wednesday, the 6th, in Porto, with the Chamber of Olhão being represented by vice-president Ricardo Calé.

At the end of the ceremony, the mayor highlighted that “this project represents a golden opportunity for traders in Olhão to modernize the way they relate to their customers, a way that is intended to be increasingly based on new technologies and digital commerce. This is the future. The Municipality is present to lead this project and become a partner in the city’s traditional commerce.”
