More than 92 thousand students start classes without all their teachers

Fenprof says the situation “will worsen” in the coming weeks with the increase in retirements and possible medical certificates

The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) estimates that there are 92 thousand students without all their assigned teachers, a “situation that will worsen” in the coming weeks with the increase in retirements and possible medical certificates.

«The school year starts badly» and will probably be «one of the worst», warned today the leader of Fenprof, Mário Nogueira, during a press conference in Lisbon, to take stock of the beginning of the school year.

«At this moment, we estimate that more than 92 thousand students do not have one or more teachers», said Mário Nogueira, highlighting that «the situation will worsen by the end of the year».

One of the reasons is the retirements until December 31st which, according to Fenprof estimates, mean that another 3.500 teachers with classes assigned at this time will stop teaching by the end of the year and many other teachers who «will now enter into an attestation situation doctor".
