“Innovation in the Mediterranean Diet” is the theme of a seminar in Tavira

Initiative takes place within the scope of the Mediterranica Diet Fair

Showing what is being done in the field of innovation in agri-food products and reporting on what has been done and will still be done in order to safeguard this cultural heritage, are two objectives of the seminar “Innovation in the Mediterranean Diet”, which will take place on the farm Friday, the 7th, at 14 pm, at the facilities of the Centro de Experimentação Agrária de Tavira (CEAT).

This initiative, which will be attended by minister Ana Abrunhosa, is promoted by the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) of the Algarve, in partnership with the Municipality of Tavira and the Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Fisheries (DRAP) of the Algarve, up within the scope of IX Mediterranean Diet Fair and is part of the commemorations of the 10th Anniversary of the inscription of the Mediterranean Diet as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

The seminar «will feature the presentation of a set of projects on innovation in agrifood products, with interventions by Pedro Valadas Monteiro and João Cassinello (DRAP Algarve), Hugo Barros (CRIA of the University of Algarve), Nuno Alvarenga, Nelson Pereira and Marta Abreu (INIAV – National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research, IP) and Maria da Graça Pacheco Carvalho (Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre), among others», revealed CCDR.

«This will also be the moment for the evaluation of the Regional Plan of Action and Safeguard 2018-2021, by Artur Gregório (Associação In Loco) and for the presentation of the Agenda of the Mediterranean Diet, by a representative of CONFAGRI, and of the new Plan of Activities 2023-2027 , by Ana Freitas (Vice-Chancellor of the University of Algarve), who will shortly enter into public consultation», he added.

With this new plan «the aim is to identify the interventions that are the subject of regional consensus and transversal to the territory, structuring within the scope of the Regional Program ALGARVE 2030, maintaining the Mediterranean Diet as a key element in the regional strategy of smart specialization (RIS 3 Algarve)».

The session will be closed by Pedro Monteiro, Director of DRAP Algarve, André Gomes, President of Turismo do Algarve, Paulo Águas, Rector of UALG, José Apolinário, President of CCDR Algarve and the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Programme, Ana Abrunhosa, Minister of Territorial Cohesion and Ana Paula Martins, mayor of Tavira, followed by the inauguration of the Fair, in Baixa de Tavira.
