Portugal has less than 11% of the European Union's fishing fleet

According to data released by Mar 2020

Portugal has 7.705 production units, but not all of them are part of the active fleet, which represents 10,8% of the European Union (EU) fishing fleet, according to data released by Mar 2020.

«In Portugal, the fishing fleet registers 7.705 vessels […], although part of them are not part of the active fleet. This significant number represents, however, 10,8% of the European Union's fishing fleet», reads a note released by the Mar 2020 programme.

In turn, Italy represents 17,1% (12.238), Greece 17% (12.168), Spain 12,1% (8.643) and Hungary 10,4% (7.456).

With regard to the size of Portuguese vessels and their power, their representation in the EU fleet drops to, respectively, 6,6% and 6,7%.
