Portimonense got their first point in the new season of the I League of football today, by drawing 1-1 with FC Arouca, at their opponent's home.
The Algarve goal was scored in the 5th minute by the Portuguese striker Hélio Varela. Following a corner, Carlinhos puts Hélio Varela in the area who, pulling from the left to the middle, takes an opponent out of the way and shoots hard and placed close to the right post, achieving the winning goal.
From then on, Portimonense tried to hold on to the result, with Arouca trying to at least draw. This came in the 84th minute, through Morlaye Sylla.
The team from the Algarve still had some hope, when the line manager annulled the goal, presumably offside, but the VAR, after reviewing the play, confirmed the equalizer for the northern club.
At 90'+2, another scare for Portimonense. Following a corner to Arouca, Guga avoids the goal over the line and, on insistence, Trezza's shot goes over the bar.
The Algarve did not give up: two minutes later, Portimonense made a dangerous attack, when Gonçalo Costa crossed low to the frontal zone, but nobody managed to deflect.
This game also marked the return home of Dener, former captain and figure of Portimonense.
With this tie, Arouca continues without losing at the start of the season.
With this tie, Arouca is isolated in fifth place, with five points, while Portimonense rises to 16th place, with one point.
