Ethnography and folklore meet in Altura

On Saturday

Altura will host another edition of the Almond Blossom Ethnographic Meeting, on Saturday, July 29th, at 21 pm, where a “tribute to the People” will be made under the theme “Mothers of Milk”.

The initiative, which will take place in the Leisure Zone of Avenida 24 de Junho, is organized by the Ethnographic Group Amendoeiras em Flor and will feature “reference groups from the panorama of folklore and national ethnography”.

The Folklore Ranch Ribeira da Celavisa (Arganil, Coimbra), the Folklore Ranch of Casa do Povo de Arouca (Viseu), the Ethnographic Folklore Group Modas da Nossa Terra (Terceira Island, Azores) and the host group, the Ethnographic Group Almond Blossom.

As for the “tribute to the people”, it is a tradition of this event, «which aims to revive the memory and enhance the cultural identity of the community».

In 2023, “mothers of milk”, “women who in other times helped to breastfeed babies other than their own, ensuring the subsistence of so many newborns”.

The VIII Ethnographic Meeting Amendoeiras em Flor is an organization of the Cultural Association Amendoeiras em Flor, supported by the Municipality of Castro Marim and Parish Councils of the municipality, INATEL Foundation, Federation of Portuguese Folklore, Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and local commerce.
