School of Faro competes for a national award of 20 euros with an energy transition project

School intends to sensitize students to the uses of renewable energy through experimentation

The EB da Conceição School, in Faro, is among the ten finalists for the national Energy Up award, the biggest competition for ideas for energy transition in schools organized by the Galp Foundation.

With the project “Discovering Energy”, the Algarve school intends to make students aware of the use of renewable energy through experimentation.

The winning students and schools will be announced on the 30th of May, at 14 pm, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento, in Lisbon.

Among the ten selected finalists, there are schools of all educational cycles from the districts of Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal and Faro.

The winning school will see its sustainability and energy efficiency efforts reinforced with funding for 20 years in the installation of photovoltaic panels by Galp Solar, which allow savings of up to 1000 euros on the monthly energy bill.

But the distinction of students and teachers who share the vision of a greener world does not end there: the best projects of each school level (1st CEB, 2nd/3rd CEB, Secondary/Professional Education) will receive 1.000 euros in check education.

The 2023 edition had a total of 65 applications, from north to south, from the mainland and from the islands, which were evaluated by a panel of judges composed, among others, by representatives of the prize's institutional partners: ADENE, Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, Directorate-General for Education and Directorate-General for Energy and Geology.

The Energy Up Award is one of the banners of the Future Up Educational Project, through which the Galp Foundation mobilizes teachers and students for a fair, solidary and inclusive energy transition.

In 2022, Escola Básica 2/3 Francisco Manuel de Melo, in Amadora, was the winner of the Energy Up Award, conquering the jury with a business plan for a sustainable company in 2050. A year earlier, in 2021, it was the Grupo de Schools in Gafanha da Nazaré taking first place with a sustainable mobility project for the community.

Since 2010, the Galp Foundation's educational projects have reached 2,2 million students and teachers in more than 20 thousand Portuguese schools, in a total of 5200 classes on transition and energy efficiency given by 600 Galp volunteers.

Future Up is a measure financed within the scope of the Plan for the Promotion of Efficiency in Energy Consumption, approved by ERSE – Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços Energéticos.
