Loulé Municipal Museum is already part of NEMO

NEMO was founded in 1992

The Municipal Museum of Loulé is the most recent member of NEMO (Network of European Museum Organizations).

The cultural structure of Loulé is now part of this network supported by Creative Europe and which currently has representatives from more than 30 museums in 40 European countries as members.

Founded in 1992 as an independent network of national museum organizations representing the museum community of the member states of the Council of Europe, NEMO also brings together non-governmental organizations linked to the sector on a national scale, national government structures responsible for museums, networks that represent more than one museum, individual organizations and business areas linked to the museum sector.

The Municipal Museum of Loulé thus joins other Portuguese entities such as the Centro de Arte Oliva, General Direction Cultural Heritage Portugal (DGPC), Grupo dos Amigos do Museu Nacional de Arqueologia (GAMNA), ICOM Portugal, Museu Municipal Carlos Reis, Sesimbra Maritime Museum and The Air Museum.

Promoting the work of these entities and value among policy makers, providing museums with training, information, networking and collaboration opportunities are NEMO's main objectives.

Its role is based on the four values around which the work of museums is developed: social, educational, economic and heritage values.

In October 2022, Loulé hosted the annual NEMO conference, under the motto “Innovation starts from within: Resilient museums in times of disruption”, having been the second Portuguese city to host this event, after Lisbon.
