Manuel Cajuda studies candidacy for president of Olhanense, Isidoro declares his support

Elections to take place in May

The movement «is growing», but the decision has not been made. Manuel Cajuda, historic player and coach of Olhanense, was challenged to run for president of the club that is experiencing one of the worst moments of its existence, after having descended to the district championships. Isidoro Sousa, current leader of Olhanense, does not intend to run again and even guarantees that, if Cajuda advances, he will vote for him.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Manuel Cajuda confirmed that he has been asked to be a candidate in the elections due to take place in May.

«There is a movement that is growing; there have already been people who called me, but we'll see », she said.

For the former player and coach of Olhanense, who is also a native of Olhão, it is not possible "to make a decision without knowing the real situation of the club".

«The life of the club in my hometown is an important thing, because, both I and other people from Olhão, we don't want Olhanense to disappear», added Manuel Cajuda.

For the former coach of the club, one of the first conditions is the support "from the City Council", as well as from the "strongest entities" in the city.

If he advances, Manuel Cajuda will have a strong supporter.

Isidoro Sousa, president of Olhanense for 16 years, assured, in statements to our newspaper, that, if he runs for office, Cajuda will have his vote.

"Oh Manel [Manuel Cajuda] has three advantages: he's from Olhão, he was a coach and he was a player at the club. I would vote for him, very honestly », he said.

After having experienced the best – with five consecutive seasons in the I Liga (09/10 to 13/14) – and the worst – with the descent this year to the District – Isidoro Sousa guaranteed that he does not intend to run again.

“I always hoped that there would be another list to replace me – I hope it is now, that it appears now. It's been many years, I'm very tired and I have to take care of my health too. Honestly, I think I put an end to it », he told the Sul Informação.

This decision has already been communicated to the mayor of Olhão.

“Someone has to show up. If it doesn't show up, you have to wait for another General Assembly to try to find other people. Let's see: it's a matter of time», said Isidoro Sousa.

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the group of members who challenged Manuel Cajuda says that this is «the time» for Isidoro Sousa «to give his place to a new direction that manages to relaunch the club to the place it deserves».

For this movement, “the bad options in the past dictated that the club had lost control of SAD. In a few years, Olhanense was relegated from the I Liga to the I District Division, with the club and SAD accumulating huge liabilities and depleting assets».

In statements to the Sul Informação, Luís Torres, president of SAD in Olhanense, also said that this election will be "very important" even for the future of SAD.

«The only person who can put an end to SAD is the club itself, which is the founding member, no one else. At this moment, the club is going to enter an electoral moment and it is difficult to say anything, because the new direction will take the reins and then we will see”, he explained.

As a member of Olhanense, Luís Torres also considers that it is «essential» to have a change in the direction of the club, «for all the reasons and a few more».
