The conference “João Rosa Beatriz, a unique Algarve in the First Republic” takes place this Thursday, February 9, at 18 pm, at the Municipal Library of Lagoa.

The conference will be given by Professor Maria João Raminhos Duarte.

João Rosa Beatriz was born in São Brás de Alportel in 1881 and died in Casablanca (Morocco) in 1960.

In 1910, he was one of the men who fought against the monarchists, in the Rotunda, at the top of Avenida da Liberdade, during the October 5th revolution that established the Republic.

João Rosa Beatriz was one of those responsible for the creation of the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, being its first administrator, a position equivalent to that of mayor today.
