Mário Campolargo, Secretary of State for Digitization and Administrative Modernization, traveled to Lagoa last Friday, December 2nd, to visit the Operations Room of Smartcity de Lagoa, and understand how this Algarve city is developing the project .
Accompanied by Bernardo Sousa, executive director of the Portugal Digital Mission Structure, Mário Campolargo traveled to Lagoa with two main objectives: to understand the good practices of the Lagoa project and how these can help other municipalities to implement their Smartcities, and understand how a national digitalization strategy in Portugal can help Smartcity de Lagoa to grow and implement new features.
«It is a great honor for us to receive the Secretary of State for Digitization and Administrative Modernization and to realize that the work carried out in the Smartcity of Lagoa is recognized nationally and a reference for other municipalities», said Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa. Lagoon.
The visit began with a reception for the Secretary of State and his entourage, in the main building of the Lagoa City Council, where the entire Lagoa project was presented, in general, the valences that are already in operation and which are being worked on to be implemented.
In addition, the added value of the Smartcity of Lagoa was made known and what obstacles have been encountered in its implementation. Afterwards, the Secretary of State visited the Lagoa Operations Room to see the dynamics of the project live. Subsequently, he visited the Urban Solid Waste containers that already have sensors and allow you to understand when they are already full and need to be collected, as well as when they are not full and there is no need to collect.
Finally, the recognition of the places where Smartcity de Lagoa has installed one of its sensors for collecting and sending data was carried out.
Smart Cities are environments that use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in favor of citizens, putting urban efficiency into practice. They identify problems, reassess processes and adapt their spaces according to the solutions offered by Information and Communication Technologies.
The “Smartcity: Lagoa project” has the mission of “promoting the development and production of innovative urban solutions, in an integrated manner, with a view to structuring the offer and its valorization in national and international markets, boosting the participation of companies in the region in the market of smart cities and affirm the image of the Municipality of Lagoa as a space for the design, production and experimentation of products and services for Smart Cities», stresses the Municipality.
