Portimão has three days full of sports

There is a lot to choose from

Triathlon, youth football, kayak polo and vintage cars. Portimão will host several sporting events, from the 28th to the 30th of October. 

One of the highlights will be Portimão Triton, the first stage of the new international Triton World Series circuit, which includes swimming, cycling and running.

The event will bring together, between the 28th and 30th of October, about 150 triathletes, accompanied by hundreds of family members.

In this world circuit of long-distance multisport races, each day is dedicated to a modality, with the respective times added up at the end, in an organization of the LOFF Association – Leave Only Friends and Footprints, with the support of the Portimão City Council and the partnerships of Marina de Portimão, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), Grupo Pestana and EMARP – Municipal Water and Waste Company of Portimão, among other public and private entities.

Open to professionals and amateurs, the race will take place in several places in the municipality and admits participants in a collective or individual capacity, with the possibility of choosing a distance (short, medium or long) and the option of competing in all the races, or just one or two.

The event in Portimão is the result of a strategic bet for the organization, which sees «an enormous potential in the region and in the ideal conditions that it presents and intends to create in this city the habit of practicing the sport, attracting athletes from all over the world to train during different times of the year”.

The event is part of a special environmental responsibility project by Triton, which together with EMARP has as main objectives to avoid wasting water and promote the consumption of potable water, reduce or completely eliminate the use of plastics on race days and contribute to behaviors responsible for all, through the example given to and by the participants.

In the same period, from the 28th to the 30th of October, the second edition of the U14 Portimão International Cup will take place, taking place at the Major David Neto Training Center (Academia do Portimonense), with the participation of 20 teams, of which 15 are international.

The competition attracts all the attention when it comes to youth football, bringing together around 400 athletes in Portimão, accompanied by their families, whose presence in the municipality of Portimão will have a positive impact on the local economy.

Clubs from England, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Poland, the United States, Finland, Scotland, Egypt, Lithuania and Portugal will participate, with an emphasis on Juventus, holders of the trophy, RB Leipzig, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool FC, Everton, Crystal Palace, Dundee United or New York City FC, without forgetting Benfica and Portimonense.

Observers from some national and international teams are also expected, who will closely follow the performance of the hundreds of young international and national promises in activity, organized by Portimonense Sporting Clube and the company Live Adventure, with support from the Municipality of Portimão.

Another competition will be the Portuguese Kayak Polo Cup, whose decision will take place in the riverside area of ​​Portimão, next to Clube Naval, over the weekend of 29 and 30 October.

Two hundred athletes are expected to participate, supported in a special way by their families, with the qualification for the finals taking place on Saturday, while the following day will be reserved for the big decisions, in an organization of the Portuguese Canoeing Federation, Clube Naval of Portimão and the National Arbitration Council. In partnership with the Municipality of Portimão.

On the non-competitive side, there will be another edition of the Algarve Classic Festival, the biggest classic car event in the Iberian Peninsula, which returns to the Algarve International Circuit from the 28th to the 30th.

«Marked by the elegance and performance of a few dozen historic cars, some of them true rarities, the event is aimed at aficionados and beyond, with lots of entertainment on and off the track, turning the space into a kind of open-air jewelery shop, while visitors will be able to interact with the pilots and owners of the collected relics», says the Portimão Chamber.

Finally, within the scope of breast cancer prevention, there will be the “Pink October” Solidarity Walk, scheduled for October 30th in the Alvor area, which should bring together more than 300 hikers.

This is how the Municipality of Portimão once again associates itself with the international campaign “Pink October”, with a view to raising awareness of the population for the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer, through a walk that is part of the regional march calendar of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth.

Participants in the walk, scheduled for the National Day for the Prevention of Breast Cancer, can choose between two routes, respectively with lengths of 5 and 8 kilometers, starting at 10:00 am next to the Alvor Sports Complex, after a half-hour pre-heating process. hour.

The initiative results from the partnership established between the municipality of Portimão and the Southern Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese League Against Cancer, through the Vencer e Viver Movement, with the support of the community support team in palliative care of the ARS Health Centers Group. Algarve and Gymnasium Portimão.
