Music and a washed “sound” radio are gifts in the 20th anniversary of RUA FM

The birthday of Rádio Universitária do Algarve is on the 28th of November, but celebrations have already begun

Music for different tastes, referring to programs by RUA FM, a birthday gala with many surprises and the renewal of the sound image of the broadcast are the ingredients of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Rádio Universitária do Algarve, which have already begun and continue until 28 November, the day the radio was founded, in 2002.

The program includes three concerts with free admission and of different musical genres: jazz, hip-hop and blues.

«We wanted to have a diversified program, in terms of musical genres, similar to what has always been the spirit of RUA FM», revealed the Sul Informação Alexandre Moura, antenna director of the radio station based in Faro.

In the first case, the concert already took place on Saturday, the 1st, at Jardim da Alameda, and had the seal of “Aqui Há Jazz”, a radio program promoted by Fausto Vale Roxo and Tod Sheldrick every Tuesday night.

The next show to commemorate the anniversary of RUA FM is scheduled for October 21, at 21 pm, in the auditorium of the Algarve Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Institute for Sports and Youth.

On stage will be the Faroese band WTDPG and the featured musical genre will be hip-hop. The concert will be curated by the RUA FM program “Rapresentação”, by Carlos Almeida, which is on the regular schedule every Saturday night.

“In this case, we are thinking of a younger audience. We're going to get the students from the county's school to talk to some local musicians», reveals Alexandre Moura.

The conversation between the school public and Diogo Lima and Algiers, two members of the WTDPG, will take place on the same day, at 14:30 pm, in the IPDJ auditorium, during the “Hip hop tuga talks”, which is part of the program “Às Sextas in the IPDJ”.

The two elements of the Farense group, formed in 2015, will share with school students, but also with the general public, who will also be able to attend, «their experiences and experiences within the hip-hop culture, in general, and the music in particular”.

The 19th of November is blues day, «a musical style that has been taking place on RUA FM for a long time, on the program “Bluesmente fala”, promoted by Hernâni Nascimento, on Tuesdays».

In this acoustic concert, which has the support of Blues a Sul – Associação Blues do Algarve and the radio program of RUA FM, “The Smokestackers”, a band composed of two young blues musicians from the city of Porto, take the stage. The show takes place at 21:30 in the IPDJ auditorium.

The official ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of RUA FM is scheduled for November 28, the day the radio was founded and, in addition to awards to employees and entities, it will feature live performances and several surprises.

The 20 years of radio will also be used to introduce new features, such as the renewal of the radio's sound image, namely «jingles, bookmarks, the time signal, etc.».

The wave of renewal has also reached programs and rubrics.

«This year, we launched several programs, such as Subversions, by Pedro Duarte, where different subversions of well-known musical themes that gave rise to other songs are shown, with an explanation by the author of the heading.

Alexandre Moura also highlights the headings “P de POESIA”, «which consists of one minute of poetry per week» and “Confissões de um Universitário”, which also airs once a week, «to make known the experience of a student about his experience in one of the various courses at UAlg».

For next year, several initiatives are planned, with emphasis on the second edition of Palco RUA, again with several concerts in downtown Faro, «with the 2023 version being held the week before the Algarve Academic Week».

Palco Rua thus returns «to be a space for the promotion of musicians who work in the Algarve region and will have the support of the Academic Association of UAlg and the Municipality of Faro».

In 2023, a "weekly program dedicated to the city of Faro, specifically in the areas of culture, social, sports, associativism, among others».
