“Siemens-Rolear.ON” consortium installs charging stations for electric buses in Portimão

This is the first project of this kind by Grupo Barraqueiro, owner of Frota Azul, in Portugal

The Siemens and Rolear.ON consortium installed charging stations for the new electric buses running in Portimão. This is the first project of its kind by Grupo Barraqueiro, owner of Frota Azul, in Portugal.

This fleet, which has been in circulation since August, comprises 10 electric buses that reinforced the Vai e Vem – Transportes Urbanos de Portimão fleet.

Siemens Portugal's Corroios factory was responsible for manufacturing the five 100kW electric chargers, from the SICHARGE UC range, and the 10 dispensers. These units allow you to charge up to 10 electric buses simultaneously, making a sequential charging.

Siemens was also responsible for the charging management software, which allows for safe, reliable and economical use of the equipment, efficiently managing the operation and energy and maintenance costs.

“Never before has it been more pressing for us to contribute to the sustainability goals of our customers, whether in industries, buildings or mobility, in order to mitigate climate change, manage the increase in energy costs and make the transition for a circular economy", says Fernando Silva, responsible for Smart Infrastructure at Siemens Portugal.

“Siemens once again shows its innovation capacity in the field of electric mobility. It is with great expectation that we are already working on the next projects to be developed in Portugal, with leading and innovative clients such as the Barraqueiro Group», he adds.

Rolear.ON was responsible for the execution of the electrical infrastructure for the charging stations, for the remodeling of the Low Voltage General Board (QGBT) and for the installation and commissioning of the Electric Board.

“Electric mobility is currently an unavoidable topic and allows us to combine innovation and technology, on the path to decarbonization. The project to install charging stations for the electric buses of Frota Azul, in Portimão, appears as an opportunity to apply the know-how of Rolear in the area of electricity and energy efficiency», says António Parreira Afonso, chairman of the Board of Directors of Rolear.

«The partnership with Siemens allowed the application of state-of-the-art equipment, in an installation that immediately required increased technical capacity and the articulation of various areas of intervention of Rolear.ON, such as civil construction, infrastructure and electricity. It was the good relationship between the various departments of Rolear, Siemens and the Barraqueiro/Frota Azul Group that led to the success of this project and which now puts a 100% electric bus fleet into circulation in Portimão», he concludes.
