Recycling center owner suspects 'criminal hand' in fire [with photos]

The owner of the recyclables deposit center that is burning in the area of ​​Vale da Venda (Almancil) suspects that an employee of his fire that broke out around 10:45 am today. 

In statements to CNN, the owner explained that, according to information from an employee, there was another, "newly hired, who will have thrown a cigarette on top of a plastic".

The owner of the recycling center said he tried to talk to the suspect, but he ran away.

“He was running over me and my wife and he knocked down the gate in order to escape”, he added.

The damage from this fire is “in the order of 1,5, 2 million euros”, he lamented.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Irlandino Santos, commander of the Loulé Fire Department, said that the operatives on the ground are creating “a security perimeter” to try to “contain any projection” that could happen to the pine forest area located right next door.

“There is nothing to do here. Given the type of fuel (plastics and wood), there is no possible extinction”, he concluded. By the way, the owner of the land next door, had already complained this morning that «there have already been fires» in that space that took «two months to burn».

 

 

There are 25 operational and 9 vehicles on site. There was also an air asset in the theater of operations.
