Loulé marks International Archives Day this Thursday

At 17:30 pm, at the Municipal Archives Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães

Loulé will mark the International Archives Day with a presentation session of Caderno do Arquivo nº 17, coordinated by Gonçalo Melo da Silva, this Thursday, June 9, at 17:30 pm.

The celebration will take place at the Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães Municipal Archive and the work presented is a study of framing and transcription of the oldest income and expense books in the village that have survived to the present day.

«Loulé has nine copies and is the second municipality in the country with the most records of this nature, being surpassed only by Porto. The published income and expense books were prepared between 1375 and 1518, but refer to earlier years, such as 1348. This is the only Portuguese series that preserves account books from the XNUMXth century and the oldest ones that have survived to the present day» , says the Municipality in a statement.

The presentation will be made by Gonçalo Silva, researcher at the Institute of Medieval Studies of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, since 2009, where he is co-researcher responsible for the Project ”Thinking big about small frontier towns: Alto Alentejo and Upper Leonese Extremadura (XNUMXth – XNUMXth centuries)”.

The researcher graduated in History in 2010 and obtained his Masters in History – Specialization Area Medieval History, PhD in History – Specialization Area Medieval History and European Doctorate, also at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The doctoral thesis focused on the port towns and cities of the Algarve between 1249 and 1521. His areas of interest are medieval history, maritime history, urban history and religious history, as well as digital humanities and science communication.
