The event takes place within the scope of the commemorations of the 14th anniversary of the Portimão Museum

Portimão recreates “A day in Prehistory” in Alcalar, the 7th of May, between 10 am and 00 pm, as part of the commemorations of the Museum's 18th anniversary.

The event, promoted by the Municipality of Portimão, through its museum, in collaboration with the Municipalities of Monchique and Lagos, the Parish Councils of Portimão, Alvor, Mexilhoeira Grande, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum, takes place after a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and has free admission.

During the day, participants can learn about the daily life of prehistoric populations in an interactive way, through practical and didactic workshops, representing the activities of hunting, pottery, engraving, weaving, tool making, carving processes, preparation and cooking of food, brewing prehistoric beer and agricultural tools and ornaments, transporting large monoliths and milling.

According to the Chamber of Portimão, this year's edition will also feature the animation of students from the professional courses in Theater Interprepation and in Strings and Keys from the Bemposta Schools Group who, throughout the day, will recreate sounds and scenes from the daily lives of those millennial times.

In addition to these, experimental archeology once again marks the offer of the initiative, through a set of proposals that will allow the visitor to participate and watch the process of food preparation, until its confection.
