Final of the municipal reading contest “Momentos de Leitura” takes place in Portimão

The initiative ends on the 7th of May and includes students from the municipalities of Portimão and Monchique

The tenth edition of the municipal reading aloud contest “Momentos de Leitura”, closes on the 7th of May, in a ceremony that takes place at the Portimão Museum and has the participation of one student per cycle of each group/school not grouped. , in a total of 26 students.

This is an initiative of the school libraries of the municipality of Portimão aimed at the four levels of education, promoted within the scope of the Working Group of the School Libraries of Portimão and Monchique, in partnership with the municipal libraries of both municipalities, which aims to «develop the habit and pleasure of reading and stimulate the school/community relationship, as well as the development of joint activities between school libraries and school groups».

According to the Portimão City Council, it is also part of the purposes of the contest «to articulate the texts proposed for reading in the curricular goals of Portuguese, to contribute to the development of the National Reading Plan and, finally, to encourage the use of the school and municipal library, while at the same time that it marks the World Day of the Portuguese Language, which is celebrated on the 5th of May».

The tenth edition of the “Momentos de Leitura” contest was divided into three stages.

The first stage took place until the end of last January, through the calculation by class in each grouping. The second phase, which ended at the end of March, consisted of each tabulation, followed by the municipal phase. The third phase ends on the 7th of May.

«The teachers who evaluated the young competitors took into account various selection criteria, including reading fluency, respect for punctuation/intonation, diction/pronunciation, intonation, rhythm and expressiveness», says the Municipality.

Gift vouchers in the amount of 75, 50 and 25 euros, respectively, are given to the first three classified in each category, and the remaining students are offered a book.
