Manuel Mestre is the head of the list of the Partido da Terra-MPT for the Algarve

The candidate adopted an ecological intervention policy from an early age that was consummated in several actions and initiatives

Manuel Mestre, 51 years old from Farense, businessman in the tourism sector and president of the Surf Club of Faro for 26 years, he has been the head of the list of the Partido da Terra-MPT for the Algarve, to the Legislative Elections of 30 January.

«Recognized for his active role in the municipality's sports associations, in 2016 he was awarded the gold medal of the city of Faro», stresses the MPT's candidacy in a press release.

According to the MPT, the candidate has always had «a life made of commitment for his council and an interventionist spirit and dedication to the public cause, particularly in defense of the interests of the Ria, the islands and its islanders, materializing it in the 12 years in the Parish Assembly and five years as a deputy of the Municipal Assembly of Faro – now in his second term by the party that now appoints him, the Movimento Partido da Terra».

Surfing, with numerous outstanding results at national and international level, he early adopted a policy of ecological intervention that was consummated in several actions and initiatives that have already helped to remove thousands of kilos of garbage from our beaches.

Now, stresses the MPT "commits itself in a clear and objective way to give a voice for the Algarve, vigorously defending the interests of its region, in a context that is particularly difficult for family and business economies."

The fight to end food waste, combat the lack of water, regionalization and the lack of qualified labor in the Algarve – particularly in the
hotels and restaurants - will be some of the focus of attention and work of the now candidate, who is committed to “presenting concrete measures, not only because of the political experience of the recent past, but above all because of the proximity and knowledge of the facts that so often are the dynamo of distance between problem and solution, civil society and political class».

In addition, Manuel Mestre also undertakes to deal with the «fight against the desertification of the interior, leveraging tourism in the most affected areas, in a way
sustainable and identity, to a more accessible housing policy that allows the settlement of families, the construction of the Hospital Central do Algarve and
of a rail link between Portugal and Spain'.

In the words of the candidate, “there are moments in life when the honor of challenges surpasses the dimension of their demand. Moments in which reflection and calm materialize due to the importance of each decision – and, however, in no way repress the awareness of the need, the sense of urgency and civic responsibility».

“It is fundamentally necessary for us to have a more humane policy, closer, with knowledge of the facts and work in the field”, he adds, defending “everything that gives credibility to the so discredited political figure and brings us closer to the real values of democracy”.

The MPT presents itself as “a humanist, ecological party that has the family – in all its forms and expressions – as a pillar of society and that is where the premises of the next campaign will reside”.
