The unexpected death of the young man from Faro, Rafael Alentejano, aged 18, in the city of Guarda, where he was studying, is causing regretful reactions in all quarters of the Algarve capital and beyond.
The young man, who was studying in the 1st year of Marketing at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, was found dead this Saturday, November 20, at his home, in that city in Beira Alta. The circumstances of his sudden death will now be determined by the autopsy.
Rafael was the son of Paulo Alentejano, former president of ACRAL and current chief of staff to the president of the Chamber of Faro, and Natacha Luz Alentejano, coordinator of the services of the AIHSA (Association of Hotel and Similar Industries in the Algarve), well-known figures in the city.
After having completed his entire academic and sporting career in the city of Faro, having been an athlete at Sporting Clube Farense from 6 to 18 years old, where he played football in the defensive position, Rafael Alentejano was now doing his university education in the city of Guarda.
In fact, in a note published yesterday on its Facebook page, the Academic Association of Guarda declared academic mourning for the death of its colleague, "during the next three days, November 21, 22 and 23, all academic activities are suspended on these dates" .
Also the City Council of Faro today he expressed his “deepest regret for the tragic passing of the young Rafael Alentejano, 18 years old”.
«At this moment of deep pain, the Municipality of Faro he extends his most heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends», concludes the council's note of regret.
For its part, Farense's management, in a note published on its Facebook page, has already lamented the death of its young athlete.
Cristóvão Norte, President of the Municipal Assembly of Faro, announced that he will start the next session with a minute of silence in memory of "two young people who lost their lives at an early age" in recent days, Beatrice Lopes and Rafael Alentejano.
As for the Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region, it also expressed, in public, «the deepest regret for the death of the young Rafael Alentejano, son of the former president of ACRAL (Paulo Alentejano). In this moment of deep pain, we address our most heartfelt and sincere condolences to the Family and friends for this irreparable loss».
Details of Rafael Alentejano's funeral ceremonies are still unknown.
