Fortress Exhibition Center of Sagres and Rîbat da Arrifana bring Minister of Culture to Costa Vicentina

The first piece will be placed in the future Exhibition Center of the Promontório de Sagres

Graça Fonseca, Minister of Culture, will preside today, Friday, at the ceremonies for placing the first piece at the Promontório de Sagres Exhibition Center and the signing of the Multiannual Action Plan for the implementation and management of the interpretive center of the Rîbat da Arrifana, in Aljezur.

The government official, accompanied by Ângela Ferreira, Assistant Secretary of State and Cultural Heritage, will be from 14 pm in Sagres, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, to attend the placement of the first piece at the Exhibition Center, in the Fortaleza de Sagres. if a visit to the works in progress at the monument.

«Scheduled to open in early 2022, the Exhibition Center will be a museum center that will provide different audiences with a reflection on the unique value of this territory, from Antiquity to our days, relating it to Ocean Exploration Trips and with the figure of Infante D. Henrique», summarizes the Ministry of Culture.

«The exhibition, dedicated to “Travels”, will allow an interactive experience with the relevance of the Sagres Promontory as the first experience of globalization in the world», he adds.

The contract, which amounts to around 1,5 million euros, is in the stage of construction of the scenography.

At 15:30 pm, in the Hall of Aljezur, the signing ceremony of the Multiannual Action Plan for the implementation and management of the Rîbat da Arrifana interpretive center will take place, resulting from a protocol signed in 2019, such as the Sul Informação realized at the time.

This agreement was signed between the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Aljezur, the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Aga Khan Fund for Culture and «established the principles for the implementation of a strategic partnership for the purposes of research, preservation, development and the dissemination of the archaeological site”.

A visit to Rîbat da Arrifana will follow.

«Located in Ponta da Atalaia, north of the village of Arrifana, the so-called Rîbat da Arrifana is classified as a National Monument and is considered by many researchers dedicated to the study of the medieval Islamic presence in the West as one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the century XXI”, concludes the Ministry of Culture.
