PSD questions Government about bad service of CTT in parishes in the interior of Loulé

Question was posed by Algarve deputy Rui Cristina

The PSD parliamentary group, through deputy Rui Cristina, elected by the Algarve, questioned the Government about «the disservice that is being rendered by the CTT, to many citizens, already penalized by other factors of interiority, namely in the União das Parishes of Tor, Benafim and Querença and Parish of Salir».

According to the social-democratic deputy, in this parish in Loulé, “the services have been getting worse, although several complaints have already been presented, by its president, without any response. There are places that are only served by a weekly distribution, such as Salir».
This is just “one among many parishes in this country, where an isolated and aging population does not have access to the most basic public services”.
In the case of parishes in Loulé, «the distribution of mail has been experiencing delays of over 1 month, so there are citizens penalized for not having received correspondence from the Courts or Social Security».

«Payments are also not authorized at CTT posts operating in the Parish Council, in locations where public transport, if any, is highly deficient. Added to this is the constant change in the postmen's turns, making postal distribution even more difficult and delaying, as well as the existence of weekly employment contracts with postmen», he said.

In a question addressed to the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, in an application submitted to the Assembly of the Republic, the Algarve parliamentarian wants to know whether "the Government has any direct or indirect responsibility for the repeated non-compliance, by CTT, with the rules agreed in the concession universal postal service, in those low density areas of the municipality of Loulé».

At the same time, he questioned "what the executive can do to force the company CTT to scrupulously comply with the public postal service".

The deputy also questions the tutelage whether, «in the resolution that determines the designation of the company CTT — Correios de Portugal, SA as provider of the universal postal service, under the new contract, to be signed by December 2021, there are provisions that change the type of service to be provided to populations residing in low density areas'.

Rui Cristina argues that “universal postal distribution is a fundamental public service for the populations and of the greatest importance for territorial cohesion, but adds that it has not met the needs”.

«Given the evidence of the bad service that is being rendered to many citizens, already penalized by other factors of interiority, the impact that this situation has on territorial cohesion and compliance with the constitutional rights of citizens», Rui Cristina wants to know what measures the tutelage of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing will take "to remedy the situation".
