Faro and Silves nominated for Municipality of the Year 2021

Silves, with the project “Silves Composting from the Serra to the Sea”, and Faro, with the initiative "Faro Active", are the two municipalities in the Algarve nominated for the “Municipalities of the Year Portugal 2021” competition.

The competition promoted by the University of Minho, that already had Vila do Bispo as the winner, intends to «recognise and reward good practices in projects implemented by municipalities with remarkable impacts on towns, cities and territory, on the economy and society, which promote growth, inclusion and/or sustainability».

The initiative also wants to "put on the agenda the theme of integrated development of territories, focused on the role and action of municipalities" and "give visibility and recognize, in different categories, different realities that include cities, but also low-density territories in the different regions of the country'.

The applications consisted of the presentation of municipal projects (event, product, service, program, infrastructure, equipment, awareness raising) that have produced a significant positive impact on the territory and/or economy and/or society, and that have completed, is in progress or whose periodic edition took place in 2020.

The Awards Ceremony will take place on the 8th of November in the city of Funchal.
