Silves delivers compost kits to mark World Habitat Day

Citizens will receive training on how to use the kits

The Municipality of Silves will deliver the first composting kits of the “Silves a Compostar da Serra to the Sea” initiative, on 10 October, at the outside auditorium of the Parish Council of São Bartolomeu de Messines, at 10:00 am. This initiative will mark World Habitat Day, which this year focuses on the problem of waste and the potential of technologies to transform them into wealth.

The approximately 70 people enrolled in domestic composting, in addition to the kits, will receive training on how to use the composter.

The Municipality of Silves emphasizes that «it is a pioneer in the Algarve, with regard to Domestic and Community Composting, in a commitment to the preservation and protection of the environment and energy efficiency».

In a first phase, this project covers the parishes of S. Marcos da Serra and S. Bartolomeu de Messines, parishes eligible under a community application, 85% co-financed by the cohesion fund.

The municipality emphasizes that «the correct management of waste is one of the most complex challenges of contemporary societies, which requires high levels of education, civic and environmental awareness, and through this innovative project, the municipality intends to comply with the Strategic Plan to Support the Fulfillment of the Targets Established in PERSU 2020 of the Municipality of Silves.
