In the delivery of the Municipality of the Year Portugal 2015 awards, an organization of the UM-Cities platform, headquartered at the University of Minho, nine municipalities were also distinguished in the regional categories, with Vila do Bispo receiving the national winner award, in addition to having won in the region. of the Algarve.

Last year, the national winner had been the municipality of Lisbon, with Tavira having won an honorable mention and coming out the winner in the Algarve.

The president of the jury, the vice-rector of the University of Minho José Mendes, said that the organization is "very satisfied" with this second edition of the award, noting that this year 80 municipalities have submitted candidacies.

Promoted by the University of Minho, the “Municipality of the Year Portugal 2015” Awards aim, namely, to recognize and reward good practices in projects implemented by municipalities with significant impacts on the territory, economy and society, which promote growth, inclusion and/or sustainability.
Prizes will be awarded in each regional category, one of which being selected for the national prize.
In the Algarve, the municipalities of Aljezur were also candidates for the “Aljezur Historical-Cultural and Environmental Circuit” project, Monchique for the “Casas sem Fogo” project, and Vila Real de Santo António, thanks to the creation of “AGARRA – Agência de Combating the Crisis”.
