The PSD achieved a "historic victory" in Castro Marim, by achieving an absolute majority in all the municipal bodies and winning all the Parish Councils, "something that no one had ever achieved", considered today Francisco Amaral, who was yesterday re-elected to a third term at the head of this Chamber of the Eastern Algarve.
“Basically, this is a recognition of our work. I have an excellent team, we had excellent candidates for all bodies, the heads, the deputies, the officials of the Chamber, everything is good», said the social democrat.
The re-elected mayor highlighted the absolute majority achieved in the Municipal Assembly. «I had never achieved this before, here in Castro Marim. It makes a big difference», he believes.
The results at the polls alone gave the Social Democrats a majority in the AM. With the conquest of all the boards, they now have more than twice as many municipal deputies as the PS, the only other force that elected members for this body.
After all, in the past, Francisco Amaral complained about alleged boycotts by the Municipal Assembly of measures and projects by its executive.
In 2017, the situation was even more complicated for the dean of the Algarve's mayors, who lost his majority in the Chamber.
After two years of many disputes with the PS and with former mayor José Estevens, elected by an independent movement (despite having been elected by the Social Democrats in the past), Francisco Amaral forced mid-term and won the desired majority in the Chamber for the remaining term.
About two years later, the PSD's position was further strengthened.
Now is the time to look to the future. And what are Francisco Amaral's priorities?
“The main priority is housing, but also the renovation of the water and sewerage network. Other projects that we have in mind are the requalification of Rua da Alagoa and the construction of a sports pavilion in Altura», listed the mayor.
Other priorities are “the bike path to Praia Verde” and “bringing water to all villages. We have already taken to 32 villages, we still need to take a dozen».
