Coastal cleanup action collected a ton of marine litter in Armação de Pêra

Action was promoted by the Oceano Azul Foundation in partnership with the municipality of Silves

The coastal cleaning action which took place on the 18th, 20th, 21st and 22nd of September in Armação de Pêra, promoted by the Oceano Azul Foundation in partnership with the municipality of Silves, had two hundred participants who collected around 1150 kilograms of marine litter (of which 150 were collected at the bottom of the sea).

As part of the International Coastal Cleansing Day, the initiative began on September 18, at Praia dos Pescadores, with the support and collaboration of the Fishermen Association of Armação de Pêra, Dive Spot and about fifty volunteers and popular .

In the following days, the activity had students from the 1st cycle and the support of technicians from the Ciência Viva Centers of Faro and Tavira, under the “Educate for a Blue Generation” program, implemented in the municipality in 2019.

Vale do Olival, Fortaleza and Ribeira were the intervention areas that had the help of students from EB 1 in Portela and São Marcos da Serra, from the 3rd and 4th year classes of EB 1 in Messines and Enxerim and students from EB 1 from Silves, respectively.

The International Coastal Cleansing Day is an ephemeris created by the Ocean Conservancy organization with “the objective of promoting the protection of the oceans”, being marked “in more than a hundred countries, annually gathering thousands of volunteers in coastal cleaning around the world », says the municipality of Silva.

The municipality of Silves «thanks all the participants involved in this activity that contributed to the protection of the environment and the ocean, in this territory that is in the process of creating the Protected Marine Area of ​​Community Interest / Natural Marine Park of Recife do Algarve – Pedra do Valado», he concludes.
