Campaign collects school supplies for children in Algarve shopping centers

Initiative is carried out in partnership with ENTRAJUDA's Donated Goods Bank

The second edition of the “Ajudar can't stop” campaign, which collects school supplies for children, will start this Friday, August 27th, and will run until September 6th at AlgarveShopping, Guia, AlbufeiraShopping and Continente Portimão Shopping Centre.

This initiative is carried out in partnership with ENTRAJUDA's Bank of Donated Goods and aims to “raise school material worth 70 thousand euros to be donated to more than three thousand children from needy families. The delivery of sets of school material is intended to alleviate the budget of these families when they return to school and aims to contribute to preventing cases of school dropout and failure», says a press release sent to the newsrooms.

At AlgarveShopping, AlbufeiraShopping and Continente Portimão Shopping Centre, the collection of new materials will take place at Continente hypermarkets in each centre, with notebooks, reams of paper, charcoal pencils, ballpoint pens, colored pencils and pens, rulers, scissors being donated , rubbers, cases and backpacks.

The children who will receive these school kits belong to previously identified families at the regional level and who receive support from more than 60 institutions nationwide.

«This is a project that makes us immensely proud. In a year in which the pandemic pushed children into confinement and isolation, with a particular impact on their learning and social development, we believe this movement can make a big difference in supporting economically more precarious families, for whom a school kit makes a big difference in family budget and for school success», says Joana Moura e Castro, marketing director for Sonae Sierra in Portugal.

“We are aware that this is a project that is just getting started. Our desire is that it continues to grow to consolidate itself in more editions, with more local partners, more families and, in the end, the delivery of school kits to even more children», adds the official.

Isabel Jonet, president of Entrajuda, stresses that “children are silent victims of this crisis. With confinement and remote teaching, children from families with economic needs faced increased difficulties, whether in accessing online classes, or even in terms of quality of life».

“There is no doubt that the pandemic has accentuated the differences in access to education and this campaign represents a joint effort to support many families in this particularly challenging return to school, while at the same time helping these children to regain some of the lost normality. on the last year. It makes it possible to achieve one of the goals of sustainable development, supporting the fight against poverty», emphasizes Isabel Jonet.

The first edition of the initiative was aimed at collecting food items for delivery to needy families, during confinement, and raised a total of 36 thousand kilos of food, contributing to more than 70 thousand meals.

These initiatives are carried out within the scope of the “Consciência Somos Nós” program in which, since 2018 until now, these centers have supported close to 400 institutions and more than 450 social actions, to which more than 60 institutions and more than 3 now join children supported by this second edition.
