Makro de Albufeira welcomes a pilot project for the collection of electrical waste

Expansion to the remaining Makro stores is under preparation, including the one in Faro

Albufeira was the municipality chosen by Makro to launch a new collection service for electrical, electronic and battery waste, aimed at all customers of this wholesale chain.

This initiative, promoted in conjunction with the European Recycling Platform (ERP) Portugal, «intends to be a catalyst and act as a reinforcement of more sustainable behaviors», explained Makro.

«The company's customers will be able, therefore, to deliver their waste free of charge, at a store or request ERP Portugal to collect it free of charge, at its facilities, through the project website, becoming certified partners of Makro recycling,” he added.

The waste collection, decontamination, treatment and recycling operations are in charge of ERP Portugal.

For now, the service is only available at the Albufeirense store, the one chosen to host the pilot project for collecting this waste.

However, «the extension of the measure to all stores of the brand» is already being prepared, including the one that exists in Areal Gordo, in Faro.

«This is another project that aims to extend our action to new sectors and customers. We work daily with the great objective of increasing our collections and Makro is an important partner with great potential to transmit the message and involve other companies in the recycling of electrical and electronic waste and used batteries», believes Rosa Monforte, general director of ERP Portugal.

The partnership with the company "will allow the broadening of the group of sustainable and participating companies in this process, facilitating the delivery of this waste in full compliance with its legal obligations", contributing to "increase the quantity of this correctly managed waste".

Philippa Heredia, communications & engagement manager of Makro Portugal, «sustainability is one of the structural pillars» of this company.

“It has been a topic that we have given a lot of importance to. There are several initiatives to which we are linked, both internationally (as a Group) and nationally, and which aim to contribute to the reduction of our environmental footprint», he said.

«Through this partnership with ERP Portugal, we give our clients the possibility of joining this initiative and being able to contribute to the reduction of their own environmental footprint. If we all unite and introduce environmentally responsible habits into our lives and business dynamics, then we will leave a cleaner planet for future generations», concluded Filipa Herédia.
