Congress joins network of Higher Education institutions for the Safeguarding of the Mediterranean Diet

Congress will be held this Thursday and Friday, July 1st and 2nd, in digital format

The first Congress of the Network of Higher Education Institutions for the Safeguarding of the Mediterranean Diet (RIESDM) will be held this Thursday and Friday, July 1st and 2nd, in digital format.

Organized by the University of Algarve (UAlg), together with the Mediterranean Diet Competence Center (CCDM), the congress is part of the project “Safeguarding the Mediterranean Diet for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and a model of sustainable society ”.

The initiative will provide a space for sharing knowledge about the Mediterranean Diet (DM), also serving to deepen cooperation between the partners that make up the Network, as well as an opportunity to make known the work developed, either by the institutions that make up the constitute it, either by the Competence Center of the Mediterranean Diet.

The opening session will feature Ana Paula Martins, Mayor of Tavira (Representative Community of the Mediterranean Diet in Portugal), Rui Martinho, Secretary of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, and Paulo Águas, Rector of the University of Algarve ( UAlg).

Thematic panels "The Mediterranean Diet in Health", "The Mediterranean Diet in Agriculture and Environment", "The Mediterranean Diet in Gastronomy" and "The Mediterranean Diet in Heritage and Culture" are the responsibility of the institutions that make up the RIESDM .

The CCDM will be in charge of the panel “Competence Center for the Mediterranean Diet: Work developed and future perspectives”, with the participation of various entities with responsibility for safeguarding the DM also foreseen.

The event program also includes the participation of Lucenzo Tambuzzo, general director of Circuito Castelli and Borghi Medievali, principal investigator of the project iHERITAGE ICT Mediterranean platform for UNESCO cultural heritage and Blanca Raidó Quintana, from the scientific department of the Fundación Dieta Mediterránea.
