The new wharf on Ilha de Tavira, which has been in operation since last summer, was officially inaugurated on the afternoon of this Thursday, June 3rd, with the minister of Environment and Climate Action attending the ceremony.

João Pedro Matos Fernandes considered that this new wharf on Ilha de Tavira was a work «inaugurated by the people, by the people», referring to the fact that the inauguration took place one year after the completion of the work and its entry into operation.

According to the minister, "after a failed tender", a significant investment was made, a significant portion of the "400 million euros that were and are about to be invested in the Portuguese coast" by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action.

This is a “necessary work to increase safety in river transport” between Tavira or Quatro Águas and Ilha and for “all those who use this space as tourists”. The minister also admitted that the Ria Formosa "will need continuous intervention".

In a global investment of almost 2,5 million euros, the contract for the construction of the pier had as promoters Polis Litoral da Ria Formosa (1.249.978,50 euros), the Municipality of Tavira (624.989,25 euros) and Docapesca ( 624.989,25 euros).

The ceremony was also attended by the secretaries of State Inês dos Santos Costa and Jorge Botelho, responsible for the Environment and for Decentralization and Local Administration, as well as Ana Paula Martins, president of the Tavira City Council.

Also present were the presidents of Docapesca, Sérgio Faias, and of the Sociedade Polis Litoral da Ria Formosa, José Pacheco.
