Loulé dedicated a week to the Environment

Party ends tomorrow the 9th

Celebrating natural values ​​and sensitizing the population to the importance of protecting the planet are the objectives of the Environment Week celebrations in Loulé, which were launched on June 2nd and end tomorrow, the 9th.

In addition to World Environment Day, which took place on June 5, this initiative will also mark Oceans Day, which takes place today.

This morning, an environmental volunteer action for the removal of weeping will take place on the beach in Quarteira in partnership with APA/ARH Algarve, which involves students from the 3rd cycle of schools EBI Prof. Sebastião Teixeira de Salir and EB2,3 S. Pedro do Mar de Quarteira.

In the city of Loulé, within the scope of the project “The Sea Begins Here”, by ABAE – Blue Flag Association of Europe, there will be an action of painting the gutters within the perimeter of the EB2,3 Engº Duarte Pacheco School, in Loulé, as well as others in the vicinity of the school, with 9th grade students.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 9, the program will close with the signing of a protocol between the Chamber and ICNF – Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation for the acquisition and planting of more than 400.000 species in the next 5 years, in a municipal land located in Lagoa de Momprolé, in the parish of S. Sebastião.

«It was also in this space that, in 2017, as part of the “Operação Montanha Verde” action, in partnership with Zoomarine, 5 trees were planted», recalled the Câmara de Loulé.

Now, with this agreement signed between the municipality and ICNF, «the intention is to embody the “Sustainability Agenda: Forest, Biodiversity and Rural Development of the municipality of Loulé 2020-25” and to meet the target established in terms of plantations in this territory ».

Since last Wednesday, the Environment Week of Loulé has motivated the carrying out of initiatives aimed at “raising the community's awareness of the need to protect the planet against the increasingly serious threats of climate change and its destruction by hand. human being'.

 

 

In this way, «many of the initiatives have a pedagogical character and are taking place in schools».

In the first initiative of the program, which took place on the 2nd, students from the 5th to 9th grade of Escola EBI Prof. Sebastião Teixeira de Salir went to “Catch up the garbage” at Praia do Forte Novo, in Quarteira.

On Friday, the 4th, there was «creation of school ovens at the School of Salir» and «the distribution, in all schools in the county, of the interpretative brochures “Encostas do Cadoiço” and “Campos de Lápias”, recently launched within the scope of the project Cadoiço and Megalapiás: Revealing what already exists!”, coordinated by Associação Almargem».

On World Environment Day itself, marked on Saturday, the program consisted of a bird watching action in the area of ​​the future Local Nature Reserve of Foz do Almargem and Trafal, aimed at families and promoted by the Loulé Environmental Center.

“Raising awareness of the natural resources of Foz do Almargem and Trafal” was the motto launched on the social networks of the municipality and the Environmental Center.

«Throughout the day, a video dedicated to CLIMAAT 100 – A story about Climate Change was released, with a story thought out and set in the county. Based on the play and children's book “CLIMAAT 100”, the author (Maria Adelaide Fonseca), takes us on a journey into the future, a story with many ups and downs, but where it is mainly intended to alert and inform about a matter as serious as it is the one on climate change, especially the younger ones, vigorous ambassadors of the environmental message, for actions that can help reduce the impacts and vulnerabilities of climate action», according to the autarchy.

Also on Saturday, the Municipality offered the Municipal Market customers cloth bags with the inscription “Loulé Adapta, because the Environment deserves our best”.

The Municipal Assembly of Loulé, for its part, promoted on the night of the 5th, an extraordinary thematic session dedicated to “Environment and Climate Change”.

On the debate table was the environmental monitoring and evaluation of the functioning of the landfill in the Eastern Algarve, as well as the Action Plan for the Energy and Climate Sustainability of the Municipality of Loulé.

Yesterday, Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, accompanied by members of the Almargem Association, was at the Loulé Secondary School to distribute the Interpretative Brochures “Encostas do Cadoiço” and “Campos de Lápias” to students.

On the same day, the “Green Youth Commitment” was signed.
