Geopalcos lives Art, Science and Nature in Albufeira, Loulé and Silves

Biannual event, which links art, science and nature with and for people, is hosted by the aspiring Geoparque Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira

O Geostage Art.Science.Nature – a cultural intervention program in the aspiring territory Algarvensis Geopark Loulé-Silves-Albufeira – continues on June 4, at 19:30 pm, at the João Bailote Municipal Gallery, in Albufeira, which hosts “Percurso – 1381 Km2”.

This is the absolute debut of a musical composition that represents the 1381 square kilometers of the municipalities of the territory aspiring to Geopark (Loulé, Silves and Albufeira), by maestro Armando Mota. This sound piece was composed for the photographic exhibition “Pelos Trilhos do Algarvensis”, by Rui MM Gregório, which will be on display at the same location, between the 4th of June and the 30th of July.

On June 10, at 21 pm, at Largo Conselheiro Magalhães Barros, in Silves, “The Land where one is born” will be presented, with Pedro Pinto (Reflect), João Mestre and Laura Abel.

Through poetry, music and dance, they are involved in a multidisciplinary atmosphere, based on landscapes whose history extends beyond the horizon. Based on the work of João de Deus, the event aims to explore artistic layers through an unprecedented and original creation.

Still in Silves, on 12 noon, at 19 pm, in the former primary school of Monte Boi, Helena Madeira joins her harp with Fly Pontes, a specialist in mural art, to create “Dialogue”, a proposal for artistic intervention whose objective is « to give the show a universal pictorial dialogue, from which the timeless sounds of characters from the territory echo».

In this event, the public will be invited to watch the painting of a mural related to the GeoParque, namely with the Metoposaurus algarvensis, rocked by the ethereal musical universe of the harp and singing.

And in Albufeira, in Paderne (start and end in the parking lot under the viaduct, on the way to the castle), on 12 and 26, always at 9:00 am, there is “Caminhos da Poesia” with Ana Sofia Brito and Mateus Verde, respectively, who guide participants in performative walking circuits.

In Loulé, at Fonte da Benémola, on June 13, from 18 pm, Milita Doré will inaugurate the artistic installation “Colheitas”, with the aim of raising awareness about the social and environmental situation that led to the abandonment of subsistence agriculture in the last fifty years old.

Strollers are projected in an environment of cultivation and joy and, when walking to Fonte da Benémola, they will be able to see, among trees and bushes, some levels occupied by strips of yellow fabric, where bodies worked and crossed in a frenetic activity.

Also in the municipality of Loulé, in Rocha da Pena e Penina, on the 17th, at 19 pm, “Montante”, a sound installation by Vasco Nascimento, opens.

It is an invisible work, installed in two places where the small communities that surround Rocha da Pena converge.

"Walkers who get lost deep in the landscape, experiencing the place with all their senses, may stumble over the sounds that hover around Fonte dos Amuados, in Rocha, or in Largo de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, in Penina," explains the organization .

Still in Loulé, on the 23rd of June, he premiered in the depths of “O osso do mar”, an artistic, visual and sound installation by Miguel Cheta, Christine Henry and João Caiano.

This is a multidisciplinary project consisting of sculptural objects/installations, moving image, sound and performance at the Sal Gema Mine, in Loulé, at 230 meters deep, an unusual place for the enjoyment of contemporary art.

The spectator is «challenged to an abyssal descent, to the heart of a mine, to the intimacy of matter, to immersion in Sal Gema, to a dip in a fossilized sea, providing an encounter with the oceanic sense recorded in the salt».

And to close the month of June, Geopalcos proposes “Fado & Blues – the wedding in the quarry”, a concert that brings together two guitarists of very different styles, Vítor Bacalhau and Ricardo Martins.

"Both styles evoke, in their own way, the lament of the soul, with deep roots in the people, and this unusual mixture will create an experience, apparently, impossible".

Geopalcos Arte.Ciência.Natureza runs until 12 September and is «a biannual event that connects art, science and nature with and for people, designed from the collaboration and participation of populations» and promoted by the aspiring Geoparque Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira, through the municipalities.

Cultural interventions take place in 10 geosites, which include, among others, some unusual places, such as the Sal-Gema Mine and Rocha da Pena (Loulé), the old primary school in Monte Boi or a sandstone quarry in Vale Fuzeiros (Silves) and Paderne Castle and Bridge (Albufeira).

The project arose from an inter-municipal application, led by AMAL, bringing together the 16 Algarve municipalities and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which resulted in the “Bezaranha – Cultural Network Programming”, a program that partially guarantees the financing of Geopalcos, using the Algarve Regional Operational Program (CRESC Algarve 2020).

Soon, the Geostage organization will take care of the July schedule.
