The exhibition can be visited in the space in front of Mango

This year's edition of Fartoon – Cartoons Show by Faro can be visited, from the 5th of July to the 1st of August, at the Mar Shopping Algarve shopping centre.

This year, the international exhibition organized by Faro 1540 – Association for the Defense and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage of Faro it had the greatest participation ever and exhibits 65 finalist works, which participated with cartoons inspired by the theme “The Coronavirus and its effects on the relationship with the environment and society”.

The exhibition can be visited in the space in front of Mango.

Among the finalist cartoons are works by two Portuguese artists (Lúcia Cristóvão and Pedro Ferreira), as well as cartoons from countries such as Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Iraq, Serbia or Turkey, among others.

The 65 finalist cartoons that make up this edition were chosen from 271 works from 26 countries. This was the biggest participation ever at Fartoon, which year after year has continued to get higher levels of international membership.

This year's theme, “Coronavirus and its effects on the relationship with the environment and society” was chosen based on the exceptional moment we are experiencing, in which, according to the organization of the FARO 1540, we were "forced to readjust our way of life and to coexist with the daily anxiety triggered by a sea of uncertainties caused by the pandemic".

The objective of the Faro 1540 was to challenge participants to explore the social, economic, political, cultural and environmental repercussions and impacts that could result from the pandemic. Although the real impact of the coronavirus has yet to be defined and interpreted, something that could take several years, the objective was also to consider the type of society that could emerge from this new global context.

«Art is one of the ways to observe the reality of each era and cartoons take a format that has always analyzed the social challenges of communities. It is in this context that we are happy to continue this collaboration and once again receive another edition of Fartoon», highlights Ana Antunes, director of MAR Shopping Algarve.
