Intermunicipal Assembly approves accounts and review of AMAL's budget

A pandemic status report was also made.

The Algarve Intermunicipal Community Accountability documents for the year 2020, as well as the 1st Review of the Budget and the Great Options of the 2021 Plan, were approved by the AMAL Intermunicipal Assembly, at the meeting on June 21st. The implementation of the PRR and the evolution of the pandemic in the region were also topics under debate.

The ordinary session of the Assembly, which takes place twice a year, took place in the Auditorium of Olhão and in addition to 40 municipal deputies, the president and first secretary of AMAL, was attended by Paulo Morgado, as president of the ARS Algarve .

According to AMAL, «the session served, essentially, for the appreciation, discussion and voting of the documents of Accounts of the year 2020, approved by majority with 3 abstentions of the CDU. It also allowed the approval of the 1st Budget Review and Major Options of the 2021 Plan (approved by a majority with 3 abstentions from the CDU), as well as the approval (unanimously) of the 1st Amendment to AMAL's Personnel Map and Annual Recruitment Plan for 2021'.

At the meeting, says the Intermunicipal Community in a note sent to the newsrooms, “the work that AMAL has been developing since the last meeting of the Assembly (in December 2020) was also made known, especially in the area of ​​mobility, where AMAL , as the Regional Transport Authority, continues to manage in the region the Program to Support Tariff Reduction in public transport and to promote mobility and the decarbonisation of transport”.

It was also mentioned at the meeting that "still this year, the concession of the public service of road passenger transport will come into operation and transport on demand will be promoted, in order to cover the entire territory".

António Pina, president of AMAL, highlighted that one of the areas that has been given particular attention in recent months is the operationalization of new instruments to respond to the pandemic, and this body will manage the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Algarve Economic Recovery Plan.

With regard to the Algarve PRR, António Pina praised the entry, «as a priority, in component 9 of the PRR – Water Management – ​​of the Algarve's Regional Water Efficiency Plan, with a registered budget of around 200 million euros. It is about solving one of the most serious problems facing the region, with a view to a more sustainable future».

The AMAL president also referred, positively, “the interventions in Serra de Monchique and Silves in component 8 – Forests. Still in the area of ​​the environment, he highlighted another area in which AMAL is working hard: climate change, which requires actions in the short and medium term and it is in this context that the implementation of the PIAAC - Intermunicipal Adaptation Plan is being initiated. Climate change".

This plan, underlines AMAL, intends to provide municipalities “with strategies to adapt to concrete threats, resulting from the environmental degradation that threatens the planet”.

 

 

It was up to Paulo Morgado, president of ARS Algarve, to take stock of the pandemic situation in the region and present the vaccination plan.

The official left a warning, anticipating that “the coming weeks will be difficult. Although the numbers are not at all comparable to the values ​​that the Algarve presented at the beginning of this year, there is some concern with the increase in cases and hospitalizations verified in recent weeks».

The president of the ARS underlined that "the biggest concern is now related to the delta variant".

Even so, and according to the official, the fatality rate in the Algarve continues to be one of the lowest nationally and the testing rate is one of the highest, two strong and positive points to be registered.

With regard to the Vaccination Plan, Paulo Morgado reinforces that he is advancing at a good pace, 65,8% of the Algarve population has already received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

At this meeting, a Motion by the Left Block “Energy Communities versus Mega Photovoltaic Plants” was also presented and voted on, which was ultimately rejected.

The session of the Intermunicipal Assembly "was also marked by the testimonies of several deputies who, as their mandates are ending and since the next session is already taking place after the municipal elections, wanted to express their pride for the functions they performed and for having been a part" of this house of democracy in the Algarve”, concludes AMAL.
