SEDES – Association for Economic and Social Development already has a Regional Coordinating Council, in the Algarve, led by Paulo Neves, whose inauguration took place on the 28th of May, in Lagoa.

The installation of this Coordinating Council took place in the presence of Álvaro Beleza, president of SEDES, Maria João Louro, general secretary, and Luís Encarnação, president of the Lagoa Chamber.

At this general meeting, which featured a lecture/debate by Francisco Serra, associate and former chairman of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, the development scenario recommended for the region for the next decade was discussed.

This is an initiative that SEDES, founded in 1970, is also organizing at national level, which will culminate in the presentation of theses by sectoral themes of proposals for Portugal, to be discussed between October, November and December.

In the Algarve, there are six district working groups already set up. SEDES will work “for the affirmation of the Algarve around innovation with intergenerational dialogue, sustainable development, social concertation, human capital and interregional and cross-border cooperation, Rights and active Citizenship”.

These working groups, coordinated by Francisco Serra, include Fátima Duarte, Francesco Berrettini, Paulo Cabrita, Patrícia Rego, Paulo Bernardo, Rui Calado and Tiago Botelho.

Water, the green plan with the Alentejo, the next Iberian Summit and the rail link between the Algarve and Andalusia will be "critical points" and "primary to the development of strategies to affirm the Iberian south in the European and national context", he says. to HEADQUARTERS.

A final wish, proposed by President Paulo Neves, is that SEDES Algarve may «contribute to rebirth, with other regional partners, the organization of the Algarve Congress as a space for reflection, debate and affirmation of the region, every two years , as a critical means of evaluating the strategic path of the Algarve 2030 plan».

Álvaro Beleza, whose professional background links him to the installation of the Laura Ayres Public Health Laboratory, made SEDES available, with its knowledge and experience over these 50 years, to contribute to the Algarve having the development that the country needs and highlighted the role of municipalities, such as Lagoa, whose president ended the initiative, in rehabilitation with the ambition of social, sporting and economic support for the full affirmation of opportunities and of local citizenship.
