23-year-old young man rescues from drowning on Tavira Island

Young was taken out of the water, unconscious, by a friend and a man who was near the site.

A 23-year-old young woman, victim of pre-drowning, on Tavira Island, was rescued this Saturday afternoon by the Maritime Police and the Tavira Lifeguard Station, and was eventually transported by INEM helicopter to the Hospital de Faro.

According to the Maritime Authority, the young woman was taken out of the water, unconscious, by a friend and a man who was close to the site.

The alert was received by the picket of the Local Command of the Tavira Maritime Police at 17:32 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), «with a vessel from the Life-Saving Station of Lisbon activated for the location. Tavira and a Maritime Police vessel, which transported to the island a medical team and a team of psychologists from INEM, as well as elements of the Fire Department of Tavira».

A helicopter, an INEM ambulance and an all-terrain firefighters vehicle were also activated for the area of ​​Quatro Águas.

Upon arrival at Ilha de Tavira, the young woman was assisted by INEM, and the elements of the Life-Saving Station transported the victim to Quatro Águas. The young woman was then taken by INEM helicopter to the Hospital de Faro.

The local Command of the Maritime Police of Tavira took care of the occurrence.
