Algarve short films are "one step away" from nominations for the Sophia Awards

Both shorts are now in the nominees' qualifying phase, which lasts until May 6th.

The Algarve short films “2 Dto” and “19”, by Paradoxon Produções, are pre-selected for the Sophia Awards, and both can be nominated for the final phase.

Both short films are now in the nominees' selection phase, a phase that lasts until May 6th, and where the members of the Portuguese Academy of Cinema vote. In total, members can vote for four candidates per category.

“19”, which premiered on March 30, 2020, is an experimental short film, made in Algarve. In the film, Hernâni Duarte Maria, the author, shows a little of his life during the pandemic crisis.

The other short film that is eligible for the nomination phase of the Sophia Awards is “2Dto”, by Hernâni Duarte Maria and Pedro Noel da Luz, responsible for Paradoxon.

This short marked the return to the big screen of these two filmmakers who have not filmed together since 2011.

According to the Portuguese Academy of Cinema, «despite all the difficulties that the year 2020 has brought us, Portuguese Cinema has shown its resilience and the proof of this is that in this edition we have 23 fiction and documentary feature films, eight series, three telefilms and 62 short fiction, animation and documentary films».
