Sailors Diogo and Pedro Costa climbed this Wednesday, March 10, to 3rd place in the 470 class World Championship, taking place in Vilamoura, approaching the spot that gives access to the Olympic Games.

With this classification, the Costa brothers continue to be the best positioned to occupy the only remaining Olympic place for the Tokyo Games, which is being discussed by six countries.

Following the Portuguese are the Swiss (8th place) and the Hungarians (10th).

At the top of the standings, the Swedish duo Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergström managed to rise to 1st place, relegating to 4th the Spaniards Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodriguez, until now leaders of the competition.

The Nords are now closer to their goal.

“It's a dream for us to be champions. It was a very tricky and very competitive day where every mistake counts and we make them. We struggled with the light wind and it was difficult to see where he was going, but we are successful,” said Anton Dahlberg.

With the wind decreasing in intensity compared to the last few days, the fleet of 77 vessels managed to carry out the two scheduled races, totaling seven regattas.

Russian duo Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov rose to 2nd place, maintaining their rise in the standings.

In the women's competition, the Spanish Silvia Mas Depares and Patricia Cantero Reina kept the 1st place followed by the French Camille Lecointre and Aloise Voltarz, current European champions, now in 2nd position.

The Dutch Aphrodite Zegers and Lobke Berkhout rose to 3rd place in the competition.

The women's fleet also seeks to fill the only Olympic place still available. So far, Turkey is the best placed, followed by Russia and Ukraine.

In the mixed competition, the English duo Amy Seabright and James Taylor lead, followed by the Israelis Gil Cohen and Noam Homri and the North Americans Louisa Nordstrom and Trevor Bornarth close the podium.

Mixed crews will be the future of the 470 class and the exclusive format to be adopted after the Tokyo Olympics.

On the second day of the European Championship RS:X class, Olympic windsurfing sport, there was a complete turnaround in the classification now led by Israeli Ofek Elimelech, winner of two of the three races of the day.

2nd place is now occupied by Italian Mattia Camboni, followed by compatriot Carlo Ciabatti.

In the women's competition the French Charline Picon, current European champion, showed that she is willing to revalidate her title by winning the 3 races of the day, after having finished the only race yesterday in 11th.

The 2nd place is now given to the Polish Zofia Noceti Klepacka who switched positions with the Italian Giorgia Speciale, now in 3rd.
