University of Algarve opens a degree in Physiotherapy

This course will last for four years.

The University of Algarve (UAlg) will reinforce its training offer with the opening of the degree course in Physiotherapy in the next academic year (2021/2022).

According to UAlg, «it is intended that a Physiotherapy student acquires knowledge, skills and aptitudes that allow him to exercise professional practice centered on the user/family/caregiver, aiming at improving mobility, functionality, health and well-being. be, affected by injury, trauma, disease or aging».

During the entire teaching/learning course, the student «will acquire knowledge and skills in therapeutic approaches based on movement, therapeutic exercise, manipulative therapy, physical and natural agents, educational modalities, among others».

«This course will train professionals capable of developing human, scientific and technical skills in an interdisciplinary climate. It is also intended to develop clinical reasoning and assessment and intervention skills in the musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory areas, throughout the entire life cycle and in different intervention contexts», he adds.

Graduates in Physiotherapy will also be able to carry out research activities, integrated in scientific projects, and participate in health promotion and education programs.

These professionals are qualified to exercise the profession either in Portugal or abroad. They can develop their activity in different contexts, namely: Public and private Hospital Units; Family Health Units; Continuing and Palliative Care Units; Sports Clubs; Social Solidarity Institutions; Private Clinics; Schools; Municipalities; Thermal and Wellness Centers; Occupational/Business Health; Liberal exercise; Research and Development Centers; Teaching and Research in Higher Education Institutions, among others.

To enter this course, students can use the following entrance exams: Biology and Geology or Biology and Geology and Physics and Chemistry.

This course lasts for four years and is designed to allow the student to acquire their professional skills, in addition to developing ethical and social awareness for the future performance of the profession.
