Lagos joins the prevention of child abuse

throughout the month of April

Lagos will be associated with the Month for the Prevention of Child Abuse, which takes place throughout the month of April, and will draw attention to the different types of violence inflicted on children.

“This campaign, of significant pertinence and relevance to society, has as its main objective to draw attention to the abuse that reveals itself in the most diverse forms – physical violence, negligence and psychological abuse. It is becoming increasingly important and urgent to sensitize the country and families to the need to care for and protect the youngest, combating violent practices, whether physical or psychological abuse», illustrated the City Council of Lagos, who joined the meeting. mission in conjunction with the Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth of Lagos (CPCJ).

«It is a collective obligation and should be internalized by all that “silence is prohibited and denouncing is mandatory”», defends Francisco Gaspar, president of the CPCJ of Lagos, who also warns «so that all citizens are aware and denounce situations of ill-treatment preventing, at this stage, children and young people from being unprotected».

Although the campaign takes place during the month of April, «the Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth of Lagos works throughout the year, giving the greatest importance to this issue. A positive sign of this concern is the decrease in the number of cases of abuse in the municipality. However, throughout 2020 there were 63 cases, so the CPCJ emphasizes the importance of continuing to work so that the downward trend occurs from year to year», concluded the municipality.

As a way of signaling this cause, the municipal buildings of the XXI Century Town Hall and the Old Town Hall will be illuminated in blue, as this is the color associated with the campaign.
