Tournament runs until March 14

Gonçalo Falcão lost in the final round of the qualifying at Vale do Lobo Open II Magnesium-K Active, but hours later he was caught up and joined four of his compatriots in the $25.000 ITF singles main table that Premier Sports organizes with the support of Portuguese Tennis Federation.

Defending the status of 11th seed in the qualifying round, the 33-year-old Portuguese player (number 1340 ATP) was unable to challenge Frenchman Axel Garcian (1303th and eighth pre-designated) and lost 6-1 and 6 -3, but he won the draw and ended the day being recaptured as lucky loser.

Thus, the CIF player will be one of the five Portuguese players in action in the first round of the singles main frame on Wednesday, having as opponent the to qualify Peter Goldsteiner (1043rd). Less luck was Fábio Coelho (1350th), who lost 7-6(3) and 6-2 to Hugo Pontico (sixth favorite) and didn't get a place in the table.

In addition to Gonçalo Falcão, Gastão Elias (third seed), Tiago Cação, Pedro Araújo and Francisco Cabral will play.

Also this Tuesday, the matches related to the first round of the doubles table were played, with two Portuguese victories: the same Gonçalo Falcão, who won a few days ago, in Faro, the most important title of his career, was again successful alongside the Turkish Tuna Altuna, beating the French Theo Arribage and Louis Dussin, by 7-5 and 7-5. And Francisco Cabral and Pedro Araújo got the better of their compatriots Frederico Gil and Fábio Coelho, by 6-1 and 7-6(6).
