Algarve does not have any municipality with extreme risk

Data show the slowdown of the pandemic in the region

Aljezur is the municipality in the Algarve with the lowest incidence of cases

The Algarve does not have any municipality with very high and extremely high risk, according to the update of the cumulative incidence of Covid-19 cases, to 14 days, made this Monday, March 1st, by the General Directorate of Health (DGS). The data released today refer to the period between 1st and 23rd of February.

These are positive data and show that the pandemic has slowed down in the region.

Compared to the last DGS update, which was made last Monday, February 22, the Algarve no longer has any municipality in extremely high risk degrees (more than 960 cases per 100 inhabitants) – where was Monchique -, and very high (between 480 and 959,9 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants), which included Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim.

Now, the region has only four high-risk municipalities (between 240 and 479,9). These are Castro Marim (465), Vila Real de Santo António (421), Portimão (251) and Monchique (276).

In the case of Monchique, within a week it actually went down from extremely high to high.

All the other Algarve municipalities are at the moderate risk level (less than 240), which is a good indicator. Still, there are small differences between municipalities.

Most are in the risk level 120-239,9: Albufeira (207), Faro (221), Lagoa (167), Lagos (181), Loulé (169), Olhão (203), São Brás de Alportel (144), Silves (152) and Tavira (126).

Already in the range of 20 to 59,9 cases are Alcoutim (46) and Vila do Bispo (58).

Finally, Aljezur is at the lowest level of all (less than 20 cases), with an incidence of 18.

This weekly update served as a reference for the elaboration of the list of councils at risk, and which were subject to stricter rules, something that stopped happening with the general confinement in force since January 15th.

According to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the DGS, this Monday, the Algarve registered another 12 cases of Covid-19 and no deaths.
