Lagoa Primeira Movement joins the Association of Independent Municipal Movements

Movement will present candidates to all municipal bodies in the county

Francisco Martins

The Lagoa First Movement (MLP), which will present Francisco Martins as a candidate for the Chamber of Lagoa, and which has on its agenda the presentation of a joint candidacy to all the municipal bodies in the municipality of Lagos, joined the AMAI – National Association of Independent Municipal Movements.

This association, created with the purpose of promoting equal opportunities for candidacies of groups of independent citizens to local elections, considers the MLP, «has been playing a crucial role in combating the legislative process engendered by the largest Portuguese parties whose objective is to make it difficult and, in some cases, prevent independent movements from taking their place in a society that claims to be free and democratic».

The Lagoa Primeira Movement says it is “totally in the demands and actions that this association has been developing with a view to allowing independent movements to compete on equal terms with the other candidates, who eagerly await to win this confrontation in the secretariat and not through popular vote».

The MLP recalls that, in 2017, «17 mayors were elected through independent movements and the spectrum of expansion of this number greatly concerns the installed power».

«Regardless of these backstage movements», the Lagoa Primeira Movement «assumes, in this context, the responsibility of winning the municipal elections in the Municipality of Lagoa, in October 2021, privileging the commitment with all Lagoa residents that they will always be first».

In a statement, the MLP guarantees that "it will walk firmly in a program that will promote the municipality of Lagoa in the image of its value in the regional context, already defended above, for a temporal space project that will start, but will not end, in the next elections authorities'.
