The elderly homes in the Algarve have had "complicated situations" due to Covid-19 and this is the "first concern" of the authorities, highlighted this Friday, Ana Cristina Guerreiro, regional Health delegate, at the press conference to update the epidemiological situation.

“The elderly are always our first concern. We have had many situations of threat, in which, either through epidemiological investigation or through testing, which results from the protocol with the Algarve Biomedical Center, one or another professional with a positive test is detected».

This implies “a test of all residents and professionals and we have had complicated situations”, said Ana Cristina Guerreiro.

The regional Health delegate made a review of the situation in homes in the Algarve, and the home in the Parish of Santa Maria, in Tavira, is the one with the highest number of infected, with a total of 57 cases and is one of the situations that are causing the most concern.

In this institution, 44 infections were detected. At the Roseiral Day Centre, also belonging to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Albufeira, there are 36 confirmed cases of the disease, 30 among users and 6 among employees.

There is also an outbreak in a Continuing Care Unit, the Quinta de São Sebastião, in Algoz, in the municipality of Silves, which has already been responsible for 43 cases, 30 among users and 13 among employees.

Yes, in Lagos, the outbreak at Lar Rainha Dona Leonor adds a total of 34 confirmed cases of Covid-19, and in this situation, which was detected a few weeks ago, the situation is already stabilized.

In addition to the situations, Ana Cristina Guerreiro said that test results in several homes are still awaited.

"Overall, the situation in homes is being monitored, but we cannot say that it is under control," he stressed.
