Infected patients were transferred to the Covid Hospital in Portimão

An outbreak of Covid-19 at the Hospital de Lagos, detected yesterday, has already eight positive cases associated, those of 4 professionals and as many users, and even forced the transfer of patients to Portimão and the closure of the service to new admissions.

Contacted by Sul Informação, the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) confirmed the existence of the cases, assuring that «all the means provided for in the rules were immediately activated and screening was immediately carried out for all professionals and users of this inpatient unit».

“Of the results already available (more than half of the total), 4 professionals and 4 positive patients were identified, the latter being transferred to the Covid Hospital in Portimão”, revealed the CHUA.

"Right now, all measures recommended by the DGS for these situations are being taken, including the closure of the service to new admissions," he added.

Today were reported, so much by DGS as by Regional Health Authority, more than two hundred new cases of Covid-19 in the Algarve, as well as two deaths, those of a 74-year-old man, in Faro, and an 89-year-old woman in São Brás de Alportel, according to the Sul Informação found out.

Most of these new cases are in Tavira (plus 88 according to regional data), where two surges and "worst-case scenario" has been experienced since the beginning of the pandemic.
