136 kilos of fish, spider crabs and snails seized at the entrance to the Port of Quarteira

Of the seized fish, 90 kilos were donated to a social solidarity institution

Five people “in breach of the health rules for the sale of fresh fish” were caught this morning, May 10th, at the entrance to the fishing port of Quarteira, during a joint operation by the Maritime Police, GNR and the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE).

The security forces collected the respective reports and seized around 136 kilos of various fish, six spider crabs and two kilos of snails.

Of the seized fish, 90 kilos were donated to a social solidarity institution, «after being considered good for human consumption», by the municipal veterinarian of Loulé, with the remaining 46 kilos of fish being considered for animal consumption and sent to the Natural Park of Ria Formosa. The remaining product was returned to the natural habitat.

In this action, which took place within the scope of the Algarve Interinstitutional Operational Group (GIO), two members of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Faro, four inspectors from ASAE and two elements from GNR.
